Jason Brooks
Jason Brooks was born in London on 23 February 1969 and grew up in Brighton, England. He became passionate about painting as a child, particularly inspired by a formative trip to Florence's Uffizi at the age of six. Brooks was an avid collector of DC comics and Tintin books in the US as a child, and was also fascinated by paintings by Saul Steinberg, Hockney and Picasso. In his teens, he received one of the first freelance commissions to draw maps and illustrations for a sports company. His parents, both artists, gently encouraged his obsession with painting and drawing.

Jason graduated from St Martins College London in the 90s with a degree in graphic design and illustration and began working regularly for British Vogue after winning Vogue Sotheby's Cecil Beaton Award for Fashion illustration.

During his time on St. Martin, Jason began to travel extensively, filling his colorful travel sketchbook with drawings, paintings, notes and collages for each festival. He won bursaries and further awards for projects exploring Mayan archaeological sites across Mexico and Central America, and traveled to Turkey, Morocco, Kenya, Italy, New York and across Europe, a recurring theme throughout his career. Living in the Portobello and Notting Hill areas of London during the 1990s was also the formative period of his aesthetic development.

After earning his Master's degree in illustration at The Royal Art Collage, Jason went on to work with magazines such as The Face, Vogue, Elle and World of Interiors, he also drew for The Independent at Paris fashion shows and illustrated London Fashion Week for Elle, Drew coverage of New York Fashion Week for Visionaire. These experiences provided the experience and foundation for his later career.

Jason in particular is considered one of the first fashion illustrators to embrace and pioneer computer technology in his field. The fascinating and ambitious world he presents in his work is a combination of life experience and imagination, and provides a means of communication for various luxury and lifestyle brands.

Jason's first book, Paris Sketchbook, was published in 2013 and began a series of colorful travel journals depicting different cities around the world. The follow-up London Sketchbook was published in spring 2015 and won the V&A Museum Book Illustration Award in 2016. In 2017, The New York Sketchbook completed the City Sketchbook trilogy. All of these were conceived, written, researched and illustrated by Jason, an intensive project that enriched his style and image archive.

Every year, Jason delivers commissioned artwork to clients around the world and loves to adapt his style to add charm, creativity and unique declarative design styles to a wide range of advertising and commercial projects.
