Stephanie Law
Stephanie Law is an American painter and illustrator, specializing in watercolor paintings whose art is inspired by fantasy, other-world and surrealist scenes. She was also influenced by the art of the Impressionists, pre-Raphaelites and surrealists, as well as other contemporary popular fantasy artists. She attended the University of California, Berkeley, where she earned a double bachelor's degree in fine arts and computer science. She delves into the pictorial language of allegory, explores the performance of myth in a new context, pursues the wondrous micro-world from the insect's point of view, and highlights the gorgeous growth and decay of nature. She interweaves textures, watercolors, gold and silver leaves, inks, and uses resin and custom-designed frames to create intricate layered pieces.<br />
Stephanie has been a dancer for nearly 20 years and uses her experience of how the human body moves and expresses emotion to create a bridge in her artwork, so that not only do humans dance on the page, but her branches also have a choreographed rhythm and flow as they move with a sinuous elegance, the arrangement of inanimate elements. Growing up in California, she was surrounded by a wealth of natural inspiration, including the twisted branches of live oak trees on the hills near her home. The wild growing chaos of nature, and conversely the decaying beauty. Her early career spanned the worlds of illustration and gaming, but in recent decades she has focused more on her own work, gallery exhibitions, publishing and cross-disciplinary collaborations.
